Necessary conditions for the post of police constable
Educational Qualification Certificate of Higher Secondary School or equivalent exam declared by Government (Bachelor's Degree from Yashwantrao Mukta Vidyapith should be considered as 12th Pass as per Home Department order dated 30.5.2000)
Physical Ability Height - 165 c.m.
Chest - 79 c.m. (Unexpanded)
(Difference should be 5 c.m. after expansion)
Age Between 18 yrs. to 25 yrs.
(Relaxation of 5 yrs. for Backward Class)

Please Note:

As mentioned before, there are three entry levels for joining the police force - as Constable, as Police Sub-Inspector / Deputy Superintendent of Police or through the Indian Police Service (IPS). For each of the above the recruitment procedure is different.

For Constables there is an annual recruitment system, and all new recruits are taken on the basis of the recommendations of the employment exchange in accordance with the administrative rules. They are required to appear for written tests and physical examination.

For PSI and DySP positions, advertisements are placed from time to time by the Maharashtra Public Services Commission (MPSC) and candidates are recruited directly into the force in accordance with the MPSC procedures.

For police officers entering at various posts through the Indian Police Services (IPS), the entire process is conducted and carried out by the Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) and candidates are selected in accordance with the UPSC procedures.
