John Di Capua, MD serves as the Chief Executive Officer for North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA), the leading Anesthesia, Pain Management and Perioperative Management company in the United States. Dr. Di Capua has been a principle driver of NAPA’s growth. When he first became a partner in NAPA in 1998 the organization served 2 hospitals with a team of 100 clinicians. As CEO of NAPA, Dr. Di Capua now supervises over 5,600 anesthesia providers and a team of 1,200 administrators serving over 600 institutions in 20 states, covering over 3.2 million Anesthesia cases per year.
Board certified in anesthesia and pain management; Dr. Di Capua joined the Northwell Health System in 1994. He served as the Chairman of Anesthesiology at North Shore University Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center and The Cohen Children’s Medical Center from 2006 to 2020. He also served as the Senior Vice President of Anesthesia Service Line for the Northwell Health System in the same time period. Dr. Di Capua was the Peter F. R. Walker Associate Professor and the founding Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University between 2011 and 2020. As the Academic Chair, he organized the academic mission for the Department of Anesthesiology at the newly created School of Medicine, which led to the development of an Anesthesia Research division, a new Anesthesia Residency program and several Anesthesia Fellowships.
Dr. Di Capua trained in anesthesiology at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by fellowships in pain management and cardiothoracic anesthesia. He was on the faculty of Harvard Medical School for a year before joining the Northwell Health System. He has successfully grown NAPA from a NY regional practice to the nation’s largest anesthesia company. Dr. Di Capua is passionate about infusing a Performance Based Culture into Healthcare and aligning clinicians to reach for quality and economic improvements. He is integrally involved in the issues of perioperative operational management, clinical staffing models and lectures nationally on how anesthesia departments can provide quality and operational value to hospitals.

Leo J. Penzi, MD, serves as a member of the Board of Directors, Executive Vice President, and Chief Medical Officer for NAPA.
He has been a NAPA team member since 1991 and has spent the vast majority of his career as a clinical anesthesiologist. He has served in many leadership roles during this period, which included an Executive Vice Chairman position at one of NAPA’s quaternary care hospitals. He has also served on numerous hospital and health system leadership committees and has extensive experience in operating room operational efficiency, quality improvement, and patient safety.
He is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiologists and holds an academic appointment of Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in New York. He received his medical degree from New York University and completed his anesthesia residency training at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
He has dedicated his career to helping NAPA develop its collaborative support network of like-minded clinicians, which has allowed NAPA to grow into the nation’s leading anesthesia provider. His current concentration is nurturing NAPA’s collaborative process improvement culture, supported by a quality metric framework, to facilitate the continuous improvement of clinical services, patient outcomes, and patient safety.

Julie Marhalik-Helms, RN, BSN, serves as NAPA’s Vice President of Quality Improvement. In this role, she is responsible for the strategic oversight of the organization’s patient safety and quality program at clinical sites that provide anesthesia and managed care services. Julie led a dedicated team of quality staff to establish the NAPA Anesthesia Patient Safety Institute PSO, which was listed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) in 2019.
Julie received her nursing degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. She was selected by Becker’s Healthcare as one of the “50 Experts Leading the Field of Patient Safety” in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020. In 2018, Julie accepted the nomination as Vice Chair of the Anesthesia Business Group’s (ABG) Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR), an entity that demonstrates clinical expertise in medicine and quality measurement development, approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for participation in the CMS Quality Payment Program. From 2014 through 2017, Julie served on the American Society of Anesthesiologist’s Anesthesia Quality Institute’s Patient Quality Improvement Council.
Prior to joining NAPA, Julie owned a consulting company in which she created and ran a number of quality, risk, and infection control programs for several outpatient organizations seeking national accreditation. She also maintained long-term management contracts with numerous ASCs to oversee compliance with federal and state regulations and maintain accreditation standards. In addition, Julie has 18 years of hospital experience in a variety of roles, primarily in surgical services.
Director of Clinical Excellence & Performance Improvement
Brent Lee, MD, MPH, serves as a Director of Clinical Excellence and Performance Improvement for NAPA. Dr. Lee is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology. He received his medical degree from Brown University School of Medicine in Providence, RI and completed his anesthesia residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. Dr. Lee completed his fellowship in trauma anesthesia at the University of Maryland/Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD. He also received his Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health in Cambridge, MA. Dr. Lee served in the U.S. Public Health Service as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Susan Scovill, MSN, RN, CPHQ, serves as the Quality Nurse for the Southeast Region.
Prior to joining NAPA, she was the Patient Safety Coordinator and Quality Analyst at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, MO. Her clinical practice was in Labor & Delivery and Levels I & II Neonatal Intensive Care.She also served as Compliance Specialist for American Red Cross Blood Services. Ms. Scovillreceived her Master’s in Nursing Education at Walden University and Bachelor’s in Nursing atthe University of Missouri-Columbia.
Ms. Scovill is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality and was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Beth Green serves as Executive Vice President and General Counsel for NAPA. Before joining NAPA in April of 2014 as their first general counsel, Ms. Green had been a corporate lawyer for over 25 years, representing healthcare providers, hospitals, institutional specialty pharmacies, healthcare technology companies, and business owners in connection with a wide range of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, the formation of single-specialty and multi-specialty groups, joint ventures, management arrangements, technology licensing agreements, and shareholders’ agreements and partnership agreements.
Ms. Green received her Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School in Cambridge, MA. She earned her undergraduate degree from Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, PA.
Ms. Green has spent her professional career in the Boston area, Washington DC, in the Philadelphia area, and on Long Island. She was an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center for many years. Her professional background includes significant experience within consulting firms, law firms, and non-profit organizations. She lives with her son on Long Island in New York.

Kristine Meade is a highly developed business leader with more than 20 years of experience in Human Resources (HR) strategy, business partnership, transformation, talent management, change management, communications, and organizational design and effectiveness.
Kristine joined North American Partners in Anesthesia (NAPA) in March 2018 as Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. In this role, she has expanded the HR function to align with the company’s exponential organic and transactional growth, including the May 2020 acquisition of American Anesthesiology (AA), a Mednax company, which more than doubled NAPA’s total employees during the Covid-19 pandemic. While clinicians pivoted to caring for critically ill patients, and operational employees worked remotely, Kristine launched OneNAPA, a massive integration initiative designed to onboard and welcome the AA employees and build cultural alignment. As this program continues, she is overseeing the introduction of new technologies to streamline a spectrum of HR functions. Among her many corporate innovations, NAPA’s marketing department is a function of HR, representing the synergy between HR, Recruitment, and Business Development pillars, and underscoring that NAPA defines itself as a “people company.”

In addition, Kristine was involved in mergers and acquisitions as a part of the company’s growth strategy while there. Dr. Palomá received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of South Florida where he also completed his residency training. He then continued his training with a Pediatric Fellowship in Chicago, Illinois, with Northwestern University. In addition to being a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesia, Dr. Palomá is board certified as a Pediatric Anesthesiologist. Frank Macchio, MD serves as Executive Vice Chairman of North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY.
Dr. Macchio completed his anesthesia residency at St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center, NY, and completed a fellowship in critical care medicine at Columbia University Medical Center, NY. He joined NAPA in 2010 at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY. In 2014 he attended the Anesthesia Business Group Executive Education Program at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. In 2016 he graduated as a member of the NAPA SELECT inaugural class.
Dr. Macchio is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology as well as a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and New York State Society of Anesthesiologists. He resides in Garden City, NY with his wife and four children.

Walker Associate Professor and the founding Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University between 2011 and 2020. As the Academic Chair, he organized the academic mission for the Department of Anesthesiology at the newly created School of Medicine, which led to the development of an Anesthesia Research division, a new Anesthesia Residency program and several Anesthesia Fellowships.
Dr. Di Capua trained in anesthesiology at Harvard’s Massachusetts General Hospital, followed by fellowships in pain management and cardiothoracic anesthesia. He was on the faculty of Harvard Medical School for a year before joining the Northwell Health System. He has successfully grown NAPA from a NY regional practice to the nation’s largest anesthesia company. Dr. Di Capua is passionate about infusing a Performance Based Culture into Healthcare and aligning clinicians to reach for quality and economic improvements. He is integrally involved in the issues of perioperative operational management, clinical staffing models and lectures nationally on how anesthesia departments can provide quality and operational value to hospitals.
